Accessibility Statement

Standards Compliance

MLA East of England has developed this web site to serve the largest possible audience - by addressing the needs of people and systems with differing abilities. This web site endeavours to conform to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

There may be some pages that do not conform to all the guidelines. Whilst every effort is made to ensure the whole site conforms - this is an ongoing process and some content may not reach the standards in all areas.

Browser Compatibility

The site displays correctly with current browsers, and using standard XHTML code - meaning that any future browsers will also display this web site correctly.

This web site relies on CSS2, which is unsupported by IE 4 and below and Netscape 4 and below. It can still be accessed on these browsers, but with unpredictable presentation results. The decision to use CSS2 was taken due to the very small number of Internet users browsing with these older versions (now less than 1%). We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Visual Design

This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.

If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.

For those using screen readers, the navigation comes before the content on each page - at the start of the navigation you have the option to skip to the content.

The pages on this web site are all printer-friendly - just page headings and the page content will appear on any printouts you make.

Structure and presentation have been largely separated.

All text is assigned a relative font size - this means that you can resize the text if you want to.

All informational images contain an ALT tag and decorative images are either relegated to the CSS document or have a null ALT attribute.

Increasing text size

If you find the text on this site is too small, you can change it easily in your browser settings. To do this you should simply adjust your browser's settings.

If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to the View menu, select Text Size and then either Larger or Largest.
If you use Netscape Navigator, go to the View menu and choose Increase Font until the text is the size you require.

Images

All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Those in purely decorative graphics or used for layout include null ALT attributes.

Access Keys

All main navigation items can be accessed through access keys on your keyboard. On Windows, press ALT + access key; and on Macintosh press Control + access key - then press Enter: It is also possible to 'tab' throught the main navigation links when using browsers with this facility.
